The European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA) has established a network of stand-by oil spill response vessels through contracts with commercial vessel operators. In the event of an oil spill, the selected vessel will cease its normal activities and will be made available to the requesting party.

  • Response vessels are used to intervene in case of environmental accidents. In which map do you find them?
  • Where do you find more information on the vessels?
  • Which are the 3 groups of capacity of the vessels?
  • How many vessels which can be mobilised simultaneously?
  • Which incident caused the biggest oil spill? How many tons were dumped? What were the consequences of this disaster?
  • In which zone do you find the highest accident density?
Check the accident density map and compare it with the marine traffic density map.
