Workshop details

When: Thursday 27 August from 15:00 – 17:00 CET

Who: Presented by the EU4Ocean partners, led by EMSEA and Gdynia Aquarium, and supported by ACTeon, Submariner and the European Commission, DG MARE.

Places and certification: Maximum 100 teachers. After the completion of the workshop, participants get a certificate of participation.

Language: the workshop will be conducted in English

Workshop objectives

The online workshop features presentations and demo’s on the Baltic Sea by marine scientists and experienced educators who are renowned experts in their disciplines, small group discussions and professional guidance to become a European Blue School.

• facilitator Dominika Wojcieszek (Gdynia aquarium)- Why teach about the Baltic Sea?
• facilitator Evy Copejans (EMSEA)- on Network of European Blue Schools
• Joachim Dengg (Geomar) and Tymon Zielinski (IOPAN) - on resources and summer schools on Baltic for teachers
• Nathalie Van Isacker (EMODNET) - European Atlas of the Seas
• Björn Källström (Göteborgs Marinbiologiska Laboratorium) VIRTUE project

The workshop is designed for teachers who wish to become part of the Network of European Blue Schools, for all ages and at all student grade levels. Teachers in science, arts, languages, sports, economics, and other school subjects are all invited to participate.

After the workshop, you will:

• Understand why and what you should teach about the Baltic Sea.
• Know how to become a successful European Blue School.
• Be able to develop a school project on the Baltic Sea.
• Have inspiration to identify a topic, activities and partners for your school project.
