Blue economy, a key for sustainable development, jobs creation and investments in Mediterranean

The Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) Regional Stakeholder Conference on Blue Economy, an international event devoted to job creation and investment potential of blue economy in the Mediterranean basin (Naples, on November 29 & 30, 2017) gathered about 500 participants from 30 countries across the Euro-Mediterranean region, including governments’ representatives, regional and local authorities, international organisations and development agencies, 150 private sector representatives, universities, and civil society organisations dealing with marine and maritime issues.

Western Mediterranean countries strengthen co-operation to promote Blue Economy in the region

The Ministers of Western Mediterranean countries gathered in Naples (Italy), on 30 November 2017, in an Informal Ministerial Meeting endorsed and launched the Initiative for the sustainable development of the blue economy in the Western Mediterranean – a goal-oriented series of joint actions to make the common sea space safer, cleaner and more productive.

Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) Ministerial Conference on Blue Economy, 17 November 2015

Over 100 participants from 33 countries, including about a dozen Ministers/State Secretaries, as well as Commissioners Johannes Hahn and Karmenu Vella met in Brussels for the first Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) Ministerial Conference on Blue Economy.

BLUEMED High-level Conference - 16 October at Pavillion Aquae – Expo Venice, Venice, Italy

The BLUEMED initiative (as part of the Marine Research and Innovation agenda) represents a huge effort to create coherence amongst marine research and innovation priorities at EU, sea basin and national levels and to mainstream blue growth objectives into the relevant instruments. The BLUEMED initiative will be endorsed by nine EU Member States (Portugal, Spain, France, Italy, Malta, Slovenia, Croatia, Greece and Cyprus) on 16 October in Venice, in the presence of Commissioner Moedas.
