The dedicated workshop was held under the working title "Workshop on integrated maritime policy and marine spatial planning in the Mediterranean and the Black Sea". The European Commission's contribution encompassed the co-organisation of the Launching event of the 7-day workshop that to take place on 20 September 2016 in Dalyan (Turkey). While the European Commission co-organised the Launching event, MEDCOAST Foundation was in charge of the 7-day workshop that follows.

to support the launch and implementation of concrete, cross-border cooperation initiatives between Member States in the Northern European Atlantic (Bay of Biscay and Iberian Coast), the Western Mediterranean (including Malta) and the Eastern Mediterranean (Adriatic, Ionian and Cyprus)

Planning and designing maritime spaces involves negotiating and developing a maritime area in a sustainable way. Human activities should take place in a balanced approach taking into account the marine environment. The relationship with coastal zone management is also important.

A call for proposals has been issued for a preparatory action on maritime spatial planning in the North Sea\North East Atlantic. The deadline for submitting proposals is 28 September 2009.
