A biological and socioeconomic impact assessment of fishing gears used to catch plaice and sole in the North Sea and an investigation the use of alternative fishing gear which would improve selectivity and improve the sustainability of the fisheries concerned.

2006-17-lot 3 Energy efficiency of fishing operations by the Community fishing fleet

  Many European fisheries face economic difficulties as a result of high fuel prices and low income. One way out of this situation is the development of more fuel efficient fishing techniques. This study will give an overview of these alterative, more fuel efficient methods. Why this study?

Study 2006-15 lot 5: Recuperation of fishing nets lost or abandoned at sea

  Large-scale recovery campaigns of lost or abandoned fishing nets will be organized and as much as possible will ghost nets be recovered. Focus is on deep sea areas. Main objective is to estimate the quantity of ghost nets on the seabed.   Why this study?

Study 2006-17 lot 2: Analysis of the economic and social importance of Community fishing fleet using bottom gears in the high seas

  This report presents a description of the Community fleet using bottom gears (fishing gears which are in contact with the seabed) on the high seas (waters located beyond national jurisdiction), together with an analysis of its economic and social importance.
