Black Sea research and innovation

Following the 3rd high-level Stakeholder conference on blue economy (Odessa, 14-15.6.2016), a group of renowned researchers in the Black Sea from IO-BAS (Bulgaria) and GeoEcoMar (Romania) launched an initiative to develop strategic research priorities for marine research in the Black Sea. At a meeting in Brussels, 27.10.2016, the European Commission decided to support this process by facilitating a series of technical workshops meant to set the scene for the necessary groundwork, e.g. get the relevant stakeholders together, map the work carried out to date in the research domain, identify needs and positive synergies. This preparatory work aims at producing a vision document for research and innovation for blue growth dedicated to the region to be finalised under the Bulgarian Presidency of the Council (½ 2018). The results will also be reported back to the relevant Programme Committee for Horizon 2020, Societal Challenge 2.
