Discover the new map stories in the Atlas!

Looking to learn more about the ocean? Good news, twelve new map stories are now available in the European Atlas of the Seas!

New Atlas Map Stories

Map stories provide more insight on specific map layers. They are accessible in the Atlas via the search menu, under the map stories tab, which you can access by clicking on the magnifying glass symbol on the left side of the screen.

The following map stories have been added to the Atlas

  • Plastic Pollution and Seabed Litter;
  • EU Mission ‘Restore Our Ocean and Waters’;
  • EU4Ocean and Ocean Literacy;
  • Coastal geology;
  • Marine Research Infrastructures;
  • Ocean observation;
  • European Maritime Day;
  • Marine Natura 2000 sites;
  • Mean Underwater Depth; 
  • Vessels Density; 
  • Nature Restoration and Marine Protected Areas;
  • State of Bathing Waters.

To read a map story, hover over the selected map story and click on ‘More Info’. To then explore the map, click on ‘Load this map story’. 

The map stories are available in the 24 European Union languages. To change the language, click on ‘English’ at the top of the window and select another language.
