WORKSHOP 1: THE CITIES WE NEED FOR THE OCEAN WE WANT
(Co-organised with IOC-UNESCO and EuroGOOS)
This workshop will discuss ocean literacy as a tool to connect ocean science with cities and communities in European coastal or land-locked settings. We will engage with ocean literacy practitioners, oceanographers, city authorities, and the next generation of Blue Career professionals, to discuss how to make our cities more blue and citizens more ocean literate. With the UN Decade of Ocean Science going on full steam, we will invite the audience to follow the Decade programme “Ocean Literacy With All” and its project “Scientists for Ocean Literacy”. Students from the Bologna University will share their ideas and expectations from the city municipalities and representatives of the ocean literacy initiatives across Europe. The event will connect science with the public in a tangible way to co-design tools and solutions for the cities we need for the ocean we want.
WORKSHOP 2: YOUTH AND CAPACITY BUILDING FOR OCEAN LITERACY - CONNECTING GENERATIONS THROUGH STORYTELLING
(Co-organized with Youth4Ocean Forum)
We care about what we know, and we care about what we connect with emotionally. Empowering an ocean generation connected to the ocean through personal experiences and stories is key to the successful development of ocean literacy. The workshop will bring concept of storytelling to life by facilitating communication between different generations on the sustainability of the ocean and coastal areas. An important element of the workshop involves speed-dating activities and story exchanging opportunities recalling different ocean challenges, and the use of online resources (tools and content) in a modern approach to ocean and coastal sustainability.
