Knowledge Innovation Communities aim to ensure that the three sides of the knowledge triangle – education, research, industry - work together on a common challenge to create the innovation that Europe needs to create jobs and growth. Three already exist on climate, information technology and sustainable energy. Others are planned in the next seven years -healthy living and active ageing, raw materials, food, manufacturing, urban mobility. A study was carried out to determine how the blue economy could profit from this mechanism.
