On 4 June 2026, we celebrate International Seaweed Day, marking the anniversary of the launch of the Seaweed Manifesto. This collaborative initiative, supported by the United Nations Global Compact's Sustainable Ocean Business Action Platform, highlights the potential of seaweed to contribute to global sustainability efforts, including food security, climate resilience and ecosystem restoration.
As outlined in the Seaweed Manifesto, seaweed represents a valuable marine resource with growing relevance for sustainable development worldwide.

Seaweed is increasingly recognised as a key component of a sustainable and innovative blue economy. Its applications span a wide range of sectors, including sustainable aquaculture, food and feed innovation, bio-based materials and climate-friendly solutions.
By supporting more sustainable production systems and resource-efficient value chains, seaweed contributes to new opportunities for environmental and economic development across Europe
