The Youth4Ocean Forum is looking for young leaders to become EU Young Ocean Advocates, driving innovative, community-based solutions to protect seas and rivers in EU cities. Apply by 25 April to help transform urban societies’ relationship with blue ecosystems and foster local collaboration for a healthy environment!
What is Blue Citizenship?
Blue Citizenship connects ocean literacy with civic engagement, empowering individuals and communities to take an active role in protecting freshwater and marine ecosystems. By understanding the links between urban life and blue environments, citizens can advocate for policies and implement local solutions to safeguard our ocean and waters. Strengthening public participation in environmental decision-making fosters local democracy, sustainable urban planning, and resilient freshwater and marine ecosystems.
About the projects
This year’s theme, Youth for Blue Cities: Strengthening Local Action for Seas & Rivers Through Ocean Literacy, focuses on changing how urban societies interact with their surrounding blue ecosystems. We welcome projects that help cities address environmental challenges linked to freshwater and marine ecosystems by promoting ocean literacy and fostering collaboration between young people, local authorities, and businesses. These projects should mobilise civil society towards practical, sustainable actions that prevent environmental degradation and enhance urban resilience. They should encourage citizens’ participation in environmental protection efforts and strengthen civic engagement to co-create innovative solutions. Projects should also strive to be inclusive by engaging diverse audiences. By bringing people together to take action, these initiatives contribute to the development of blue citizenship and society-driven solutions to local environmental challenges.
