The Master is addressed to researchers, scientists, and managers from diverse academic backgrounds. It integrates science, policy, and economics to tackle key challenges, emphasizing multidisciplinary collaboration and capacity-building for a future that balances economic growth with environmental sustainability in the Mediterranean and beyond.
The European Commission's new approach for a sustainable blue economy in the European Union, launched in May 2021, underscores the critical role that industries related to the ocean, seas, and coasts play in achieving the goals of the European Green Deal.
At the heart of this vision, the 8th edition of the Master in Sustainable Blue Economy (2024-2025) aims to provide training and mobility opportunities for the next generation of scientists, technicians and operators in the marine and maritime sector.
Participants can engage in a variety of activities that enhance their theoretical and practical knowledge about the current challenges involving water and the sea. Some examples include sea watching in the Marine Protected Area of Miramare Castle, where students can observe marine biodiversity firsthand, and a visit to the Port of Trieste, where they can understand the recent developments towards green and digital ports. Additionally, an interactive workshop on the Copernicus Marine Service allows students to explore advanced tools and technologies for ocean observation, monitoring and management.
This one-year second level Master is compatible with job commitments thanks to the part-time structure of the lectures. In particular, courses take place in three intensive sessions of 2 weeks each in March, June and September 2025.
The lectures are taught in English, with international students coming from different countries and with different backgrounds (if interested, you can find their profiles on the dedicated webpage).
Fellowships are available, awarded according to criteria of merit and geographical origin, with priority to students coming from Countries members of the 5+5 Dialogue and of the Central European Initiative.
